Screen Play: Sundance 2013 “The Way, Way Back”
The Gist: A sweet story about an awkward teen who comes out of his shell once he pals around with a riotous water park manager.
The Stars: Steve Carell, Toni Collette, Allison Janney, Sam Rockwell, Maya Rudolph, and Liam James.
The Buzz: Janney and Rockwell kill it as the neighboring drunkard and aforementioned manager (respectively), and audiences do not like Carell playing a dickhead playboy. Regardless, Fox Searchlight liked what it saw and picked up rights.
